The main objective of the Work Equitation Trials is to combine the competitive spirit of an equestrian modality based on the classic riding of each country to the conservation of its traditions, namely in the use of the costume and harness being a prime example of an ethnographic and cultural showcase, maintaining the traditional costumes and saddlery characteristic of each country.
The growing interest that this modality has aroused, both at the level of competitors and the public, required APSL to create three distinct levels (Veterans, for those who have competed for at least one year, Under-16 and Debutant Horses for animals that participate in this type of event for the first time). In 2004, the number of classes was adjusted to five with the inclusion of the Under-20 and the Masters (higher level than in dressage requires Grand Prix exercises).
Comprised of different stages, a contest begins with a Dressage Test, followed by Maneability and Speed. There is also the Cow trial only held in places with conditions to do so.
APSL is developing an important effort to promote the use of the Lusitano Horse in different disciplines.
With this goal, it organizes the National Working Equitation Championship, a discipline where our horse shows great aptitude.
National Championship
The National Championship is disputed throughout the year with several Journeys held from North to South of the country.
The Championship is responsibility of the APSL under the umbrella of the of the Portuguese Equestrian Federation (FEP).
International Competitions
At the international level, the WAVE - World Association for Working Equitation is the entity that regulates the discipline that already has 22 countries.
